QIO PERSPECTIVE / SYSTEMS & OWNERSHIP

Who owns the gap between your systems?

A connection can move data. It cannot decide who is accountable.

Look between the boxes

System diagrams usually show the tools. Operational problems often live on the lines between them: a missing decision, an unclear owner or a failed update that nobody notices.

Define what complete means

A successful request is not necessarily a completed process. Confirm what the receiving system accepted, what the next person can see and how failures are reconciled.

Make the exception visible

Assign an owner for missing or conflicting data. Give that person enough information to resolve the issue, retry safely and confirm the result.

Document the operation

Include access, alerts, recovery, escalation and change ownership in the handover. The business needs to be able to run what it has bought.
